I am Anna Basseto, a portrait photographer with over 20 years of experience. My journey began in photojournalism, taking me to the far corners of the globe, where I've had the privilege of capturing extraordinary moments in the most diverse and vibrant settings. This background has honed my ability to see beyond the surface and capture the true essence of my subjects.
For many years, I lived inside what never appears in family photographs: the emotional exhaustion, I learned how to survive in places where the voice is subdued and where strength becomes instinct. None of it destroyed me — but it changed me entirely.
That path brought me here.
Today, my work is shaped by what I know from within:
that there is a quiet courage only women understand.
The emotional violence leaves no marks on the skin, yet reshapes the soul.
That freedom begins long before a woman walks out the door — it begins the moment she sees herself again.
Photography was where I learned to breathe.
My new beginning started with a camera in my hand and the impossible, simple choice not to disappear. Through it, I began to document what is never spoken: the invisible mothers, the women who hold the weight of everything, the stories that were never truly told.
I created Under the Weight of Silence to give form to this world - a space where resilience takes shape without having to ask permission, where silence stops being a prison and becomes a witness to strength.
Today, I work with women who carry internal scars. I photograph hope, liberation, rebuilding, and the exact moment someone remembers she still has a life of her own.
Today, I use photography as a tool for expression, healing, and autonomy. I don’t offer ready-made answers; I offer presence. I offer attention. I offer a portrait that gives a woman back to herself.
I believe every woman deserves a story not built on fear.
And I believe, deeply, that no woman should have to walk alone - not even inside her own home.
